Description
A floor-mounted shelving system using cantilevered shelves that extend from one or both sides of a rigid vertical back is known as gondola shelving. It is used mostly in retail because it is easy to move and reconfigure.
Typical gondola shelving unit has the following characteristics:
- It includes a pegboard or solidboard.
- It does not use four posts (one in each shelf corner), as many other styles of shelving do.
- Excepting the pegboard (or solid board or slatwall), all of its parts are metal.
- The base deck, as the bottom shelf is known, is flat.
- Delivered mostly in four-foot wide sections, 2’ and 3’ sections are available too, in order to achieve the correct linear run.
- It is constructed as either wall or island units. An island unit is basically similar to a wall unit, except that all the parts are also attached to the back of the “upright”.
